What kind of business do you have at home?

I manage and run The Work at Home Woman, an online business resource and blog
for women and moms who wish to work from home or become self-employed.

What did you do before you started a home business?

Before I launched The Work at Home Woman, I worked part-time at home for a small
publishing company as a Social Network Liaison. I actually still work for them and
will continue to do so until my endeavor starts brining in more money. Luckily I’ve
been able to work from home since December 2007.

What was your biggest challenge in starting your home business?

I am a mom to a wonderful two year old, so the biggest challenge for me has been
finding the time to get everything done.

What has been your biggest challenge staying in business?

Occasionally I get frustrated with slow business growth, but I know that to be
successful that I must continue to forge ahead.

What do you love about working from home?

I love that I am readily available for all of my daughter’s needs.

What do you dislike about it?

I can’t think of anything.

How do you do to inspire or motivate yourself everyday?

I truly enjoy what I’m doing, so it’s easy for me to stay on target.

How do you separate home life from your work life?

I create a work schedule and stick to it.

How do you keep family/home/work all in balance?

By keeping to-do lists and sticking to a schedule I am able to maintain a work-life-
home balance.

Where is your office in your home?

It’s attached to our bedroom, but I often
work from my kitchen table where I can see
the lake outside.

What is your daily routine?

I wake up around 6:00-6:30AM and do some
research and write my daily blog post before my daughter wakes up. I hang out with
my daughter all morning then work again while she is napping in the afternoon.
Occasionally, if I have a lot on my plate, I will work at night when my husband can
watch our daughter.

What is your biggest (or proudest) achievement so far?

The launch of my website – it was 16 months of research and writing before I launched
it.

What are you working on right now to grow your business?

I continue to market my business through networking, article submission and I’m
currently writing a press release.  I monitor my website’s analysis daily to see which
efforts are paying off the most.

What advice can you give about starting a home business?

Take your time and do your research, talk to other entrepreneurs an get their advice.

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do (or not do)?

I would have designed the layout of my website a little bit differently and I would
have researched keywords for SEO more carefully. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

What do you do for fun when you’re not working?

I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, snorkeling, boating and spending time with family
and friends.
